Daylight examines the site of the Tombs in Manhattan’s Chinatown, where four iterations of a jail have been demolished and rebuilt since 1838. Layers of carceral history are inscribed, erased, and overwritten with each generation of reform.
Daylight observes the justice architects involved in the process of designing four new borough based jails in the city. The film visualises the process of reformative justice design, looking at the language, renderings and imagery used to perpetuate the system that reform claims to dismantle.
